They both agreed.

The second half degenerated into a compete farce.  Having decided that they couldn't take liberties with the laws they lost interest completely and just wandered around until 90 minutes were up.

After the game they told me in no uncertain terms that I "had ruined the game".  Well maybe in their eyes I had but I was happy that I'd done the job properly.
But  it does pose a problem.  It seems to me that if it were a friendly it would be played relatively seriously but not too serious.  But these games are different, they're not competitive but they're not friendlies either, and it strikes me that the players also have trouble in finding the right level of involvement.

So, do I lay the law down before the game even starts, do I play it by ear  and see how the players react, do I just let them get on with it and try and keep out of trouble or do I treat it like any other game and uphold the laws irrespective of what happens.

I've often heard it said that a game is a game is a game but they are all very different and should be refereed as such, I don't think you can referee every game the same as the last.

Lets face it Refereeing is an unrecognised art form

Here's looking forward to the last game of the season.
