The close season has been quite on the football front for me but I appear to have been bombarded with all sorts of paper from the FA and Refereeing circles.
Considering that we have no law changes to get excited about, I wonder just what I might receive if we have a season with many changes.  I have passed on to Martin some details about a mobile phone offer and can tell you that this seasons RA quiz will be held on Wednesday 3
rd November at Guildford.

Last season I took part in the quiz for the first time for many years and was delighted to see just how much it had changed.  The quizmaster was Eric Trengrove of the Army FA who has a real talent for this kind of thing.  He will again be the quizmaster this year and I will definitely want to be part of a Sutton RA Team.  In the new style there are no individual questions - it is a team game, and a jolly enjoyable one at that.

We held a committee meeting in late July to plan this coming season. One of the over-riding feelings was that we do not talk enough 'local parks' football problems at our meetings, and so we will be trying to address this in the coming season.  We will be including a discussion slot on the basic agenda of every meeting which should, we hope, be lively, enjoyable and informative.

Talking of potential refereeing problems I think that we may well have some fun with the mandatory caution of the "Brian Phelps's" of this world.  Now some of you must remember Brian! - he was G.Bs.best loved high board diver when I was a lad.  My early thoughts on this one is to be sure before you act, as you can bet the players will be trying to con us from both directions.

If you think technology is only for the Premier League - think again.  I heard of a park referee who takes a small camera out on the field with him and takes a quick snap of all the players he cautions or sends off.  I am informed that he has had no cases of 'wrong identity' and caught a couple of ringers to boot. Sounds pretty snappy to me.

I hope to see you all at our first meeting where we will be talking about the few new adjustments to the Laws and the role of the 4
th official.  This last item will be of help to any of our members who agree to fulfil this function for Sutton United this season.  It going to be an exciting season - if I don't see you at the meetings, I will look for you on the circuit.  Have a great one.
