Delegates Meeting
31st January 2000

The proposal to conference concerning the waiving of membership fees for under 16s and over 65s has been considered in more detail.   Little interest expressed insofar as over 65s were concerned, but it was felt that there is the need to encourage under 18s to take up membership of the R.A.   There is, as a result, a proposal from Norfolk to reduce these categories to half the appropriate subscription.   This proposal was generally approved by those present.

The Society is reminded that there is an award by way of a County Certificate for any person serving 10 years or more in the capacity of a committee member.
Certain counties have applied for a review in the Attendance Allowance for Hearings.   Figure intimated at being £10 plus travelling expenses.   The county is considering this aspect further.

The five-a-side tournament was won by Redhill (also quiz winners) who will represent County at Divisional Finals at Woking on 5th March 2000.

Comment was made at the failure of some referees to receive an invitation to the last IST.   No explanation has been found for this alleged mishap.

Goods news - raffle tickets are now available.   Don't rush.   There was a thought here that the price structure should be reviewed - any suggestions in this respect would be appreciated.

A Question of Interpretation - Part Three

I was very interested in reading this article; it certainly was one to tease the old grey matter!

I hope you don't mind but I was that intrigued, I sent the article to Alan Robinson (the Chairman of the RA's Instructional & Publications Committee) for an 'official' opinion. He has written back on 22/2 as follows:-

"With regard to the article "A question of interpretation?" by Dave Churchley, this was given consideration by the I&PC at their meeting last weekend. After discussion, it was felt that the wrong answer had been published in the magazine and, in fact, the answer to the problem is as stated by Dave. My colleagues appreciated the correct method of restart being pointed out to them and apologise for the error made."

More power to your elbow!!!
Kind regards
David Crick
