* Referees can now E-Mail their open closed dates to County Office. The address is Rward@surreyfa.com

* The RA Council has appointed regional Recruitment & Retention Officers for north & south. Have written to Ian Butler (NRRO[S]) with details of the Society R&R Officers, as requested. Ian is based in Worthing and we look forward to his initiatives

* John Casey (Croydon) and Barry Rowland (Wimbledon) have been nominated to go the 1st and 2nd year respectively of the FA Licenced Instructors' Course in the summer.

* Some County 10-year and 20-year MSA awards are being missed. Society Secretaries have been asked to check their records.

* Members are reminded that RA subs go up £1.00 next Season and that any increase in insurance premium will not be known until April.

* Six counties (Cambs & Hunts, London, Herts, Oxon, AFA and Beds) give the LOAF free of charge to their referees every year. One wonders whether Surrey might follow suit as it would be to the benefit of football if all referees had an up-to-date copy of the Laws.

* Selection of match officials for the SCFA Cup Finals and Semi-finals took place on 5/2/2000 with SCRA representation.

* Promotions will be decided on 27/3/2000 and, again, the SCRA has been invited to attend.

* Referee assaults. The FA has introduced a new category of charge - "Improper or Insulting Behaviour to Match Officials". Examples of what constitutes this were given to Delegates at their recent meeting; it being noted that, previously, these had been defined as referee assaults. It would appear that this has come about as a direct result of a number of assault cases being thrown out because of badly-written reports. This change should ensure that guilty parties are still dealt with severely. Details of this change will be circulated to Societies (and Editors) shortly.

* IST for referees under 18 has been scheduled for 3 September 2000. Potential attendees are being asked what they would like covered. Confrontation management is a popular request. The normal autumn IST will take place on 18 October 2000 probably for promotion candidates with input from Assessors.

* 125 have passed the exam to date this Season with 1 failure. This is 30 fewer than the same time last year.

* FA Area Referee Advisor, Dave King, reported that

* new FA training videos will be available soon and will be send to all LIs.

* rules for mini-soccer must come into line with the FA from 1/9/2000 with a facilitator teaching pack being available to enable organisers to run these games

* on misconduct report forms, it is important to describe language as either "offensive", "abusive" or "aggressive" besides quoting the words. This is so the correct category of charge can be recorded.
