Secretary's Notes

Since the last meeting I have received 2 sets of correspondence - the first being the minutes of the Southern Division Executive Committee meeting held on the 11
th December where Surrey was represented By Ray Mallery.

All the usual subject were discussed again including future conferences, retention of referees, full representation on the FA and assaults (which you will all be pleased to know are slightly down on previous years).

New items include the formation of the Management Consultancy Team, which has been appointed to enable Council to present comprehensive finding to conference 2001 on the future of the RA.

The second item was all about the consultancy work and contained a questionnaire to be completed by individuals and societies.  I will be photocopying up some sets of these questions and will distribute to members at the next meeting (it is possible that one or two of you will have received a direct copy).  At our meeting in March we will deal with this questionnaire as a society and also be attempting to brainstorm a Vision statement and a Mission statement for the RA.

And you thought you had it tough

The referee who shot a player dead during a "friendly" match in South Africa.  The player argued with the ref over a disputed goal; the argument became heated and the player drew a knife.  So the referee shot him through the heart.  "I always carry a gun during matches," the ref said, "because you never know how  players will react to a decision."
