David Churchley mentioned that the RA website has links to various Society websites. Some months ago I e-mailed asking them if they could include our Society on their website link-up. I was amazed at the amount of correspondence I received from them not only by e-mail but also by post. The problem has now been sorted out, and we are now have a link on the RA website.
John Martin mentioned that Charles received an e-mail from the Society website from France. A man claiming to be a top referees assistant asked why English referees ran right wings and continental referees ran left wings? After some debate members present could not come to a conclusion as to why this was so.
John Kasey needs three reserve Officials for Wimbledon, will give dates. Officials also for Sutton on the 28th March and the following Tuesday is Woking at home, there are three matches at home in eight days and cover is needed for all of them. So if anyone is interested please contact John Brown or myself.
John Kasey also asked if anyone had had any problems officiating in the past. John Brown mentioned that as a 4th official he thought it was his duty to calculate any extra time and inform the referee in the middle and not the other way round. Another lengthy debate ensued as to who is responsible for this duty.
Charles Jeffrey asked if we are having the Annual Eve of Cup Final Dinner at the end of this season. John Brown mentioned that details of the dinner would be announced next month.
The Chairman then gave the floor to John Brown. The discussion for the evening was the future of the RA. A questionnaire was sent to all the societies to fill in. Approximately ninety questions were put to the member's present; all members gave answers and opinions. The form will then be sent back to the RA.
After an interval of ten minutes John Brown took to the floor again to discuss the formation of a 'Vision' statement and 'Mission Statement'. At present the RA has neither.
The meeting closed at 21.40
