The Charlie Holliday Memorial Trophy

At the September meeting I introduced our new trophy, which was donated to
the society by the widow of our late president.

As Charlie was always on the side of referees, the committee felt that the trophy would be presented for achievement in refereeing. This does not mean that the winner will be the referee of the year, but the referee who has made the most progress.

This leaves the field wide open, as it could be a referee who has gained
promotion, regardless of age or class; or it could be a referee who has been
promoted onto a higher league; or an established referee who has persevered
and been given plum fixtures.

The eventual winner will be decided by a sub-committee. Peter Watson has
volunteered to chair this forum and the other members will be announced
during the season, but they can make no decision without your help. They
must be aware if you are going for promotion; they must be aware if you are
officiating on a new league and to give Dave Churchley some material for
Touchlines, let him and Peter know your fixtures in Sutton Super Ref's.

This trophy can only be given the credibility it deserves with your help. If
your too modest or shy to have your name in print, telephone Peter or slip
him a discreet note. Remember virtually all the membership are eligible, so
please help to make this trophy a worthwhile acquisition.

Is this a record !!

The County FA have certainly pulled out the stops on this one.
I dismissed a player on the Saturday
I posted the disciplinary forms on the Sunday
I received in the post on the Wednesday details of the disciplinary hearing

I have found that normally these things take either weeks or months so it
will be interesting when I appear before the hearing why events have
proceeded so quickly in this case

I will let you know.
