This month nearly all my RA correspondence has been of the admin type and not the sort of thing that makes interesting reading to members. The following is a very distilled version of your secretary's postbag.
The Surrey County Referees' Association Training Officers Committee (SCRATOC) have set about arranging a series of meetings to develop and enhance the skills of referees within the county.
The aim of the 'Development Groups' is to utilise the experience of senior colleagues to help Surrey referees' up the promotion system towards the Premier League. There will be two groups, one of class 1 & 2 referees and the other with referees between 14 and 18 years.
The first group meeting will take place at Fetcham Park FC on 20th November at 7.30pm. If you are interested in this project and have not received an invitation please contact Steve Maguire on 020 8656 6420. You can also email him at stephen.maguire@sherwood36.fsnet.co.uk
Sutton Grammar School for Boys needs you. The school runs 11 football teams every Saturday morning and needs referees urgently. All the home games take place at the school sports ground at Northey Avenue, Cheam and kick off at 10am. The facilities are good and you can be sure of a polite and friendly reception with unlimited tea and hot showers. The school will pay expenses if required. Contact Steve Bangs at his home on 020 8669 3766 or on his mobile 07747 046 083. The teams range from under 12s to 18s with A & B teams at each level so this could be a great starting place for young referees to cut their teeth, also the older guys who would simply like to give a bit back to our local grammar school.
