Retention Officer Peter Rogers needed an up to date list of members with phone numbers. Question was raised as to whether we need members if they do not attend meetings. The response was that some members have legitimate reasons to be absent from meetings even if they do not proffer apologies. It was further stated that we should not exclude these absent members as they have a right to RA Insurance benefits. Various views were expressed as to why referees do not continue membership (probably in line with the experience of other societies). Good management by leagues in the appropriate appointing of referees ensured that referees stay in the game and hopefully in the RA.
Any Other Business Our annual end of season dinner is set for 4th May 2001. Names to John Brown please so booking can be arranged. Apologies for absence at the AGM were noted from John Brown and Roger Pink. Recent TV advertising showed claims for player injury. If members are asked to appear as witness or involved in any way in legal proceedings, they should seek advice from the Society secretary and/or the County RA secretary. It was stressed that pitch inspections were important to allay fears about player injury and litigation. It was also important to remember that protection is there in case of misjudgment. The society was informed of the successful promotions: Mark Walker to Class 2. Anthony Moore and Richard Woods to Class 1. Comment was made as to some of the secretary's notes in the April Touchlines as being unnecessarily flippant and out of character in comparison to his service to the society.
Afterwards, the meeting was addressed by Roger Pink in giving his views and experience in the management of a local football league - The Sutton and District League.
The meeting closed 22.00hrs.
