It will depend how the ball was first played by the kicker. If it is played forward, even diagonally, and assuming that the colleague of the kicker had not encroached within 9.15m of the ball or into the penalty area before the kick is taken, then a goal would be awarded under those circumstances. Law 14 states that at a penalty kick "the ball is in play when it has been kicked and moves forward". It does not state that the kicker must try and score directly from the penalty kick. It has been tried at the professional level several years ago causing complete bewilderment amongst the opponents and spectators!
